Voicing Victims Concerns

 

 

The Manatee Victim Rights Council has been serving Manatee County since 1986.

 

The council consists of professionals from the State Attorney's office, local law enforcement, social and mental health service providers and citizens who are concerned about or have been affected by crime. 





  • The purpose of the council is to promote the fair and compassionate treatment of crime victims.
  • Our goals encompass focusing on issues specific to victims of crime and advocate services; increase community awareness of current issues, services, and needs of crime victims; provide information and education to the community and State; serve as a forum for victim service providers and make policy recommendations to facilitate service coordination.
  • MVRC hosts the annual Victim Rights Candlelight Vigil during National Victim Rights Week.
  • The council has participated in new law changes in the interest of victims.
  • MVRC is expanding to offer credited training classes to promote victim awareness and related topics to area professionals.

THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA GUARANTEES THAT:

 

Victims of crime or their lawful representatives including the next of kin of homicide victims, are entitled to the right to be informed, to be present and to be heard when relevant, at all crucial stages of criminal proceedings, to the extent that these rights do not interfere with the constitutional rights of the accused.
